Frequently Asked Questions
What is actually in it?
Four ingredients: peanuts, jaggery, dried ginger and cardamom. Around 70% is peanuts, so it is mostly nuts held together by jaggery. There is no glucose syrup, no white sugar, no added fat and nothing to preserve it.
What allergens does this contain?
This product contains peanuts and may contain soy, milk, nuts and mustard. Anyone with an allergy to these ingredients should not consume this product. Please read the full ingredient list carefully before purchasing, particularly when buying on behalf of someone else.
What is the story behind Sweet Karam Coffee?
The brand takes its name from the three-part South Indian snacking tradition — something sweet, something savoury, then coffee. Its recipes are made the way a grandmother would, which is why the packaging features Janaki Paati.
Why jaggery instead of white sugar?
Jaggery is made by boiling down sugarcane juice until it sets, skipping the refining that strips white sugar back to pure sucrose. It keeps some of the cane's natural molasses, which is where the darker colour and toffee-like depth come from.
What do peanuts bring to it?
Peanuts are dense in protein and unsaturated fats, which is why this style of bar has been a working snack in India long before anything was marketed as an energy bar. At 70% of the pack, they are what gives it substance rather than just sweetness.
